Dear Jinri: Netflix Documentary Starring K-Pop Star Sulli Sets Release Date

Persona: Sulli, a film starring the late Korean pop star Sulli, will reportedly premiere on Netflix on November 13.

Mystic Story announced on October 26 that the upcoming film will be divided into two parts: a short film titled 4: Clean Island and a documentary film titled Dear Jinri, which will look back on the life of the late singer and actress.

Besides Sulli, 4: Clean Island stars Hwang Miyoung and Park Gabi. Directed by Hwang Soo-ah and written by Lost screenwriter Kim Jihye, the short film follows 4, who longs to relocate to Clean Island, which is thought to be the world’s purest and cleanest place. But at a peculiar immigration checkpoint, she must first confess her sins to a special pig in order to enter the island.

Dear Jinri provides an in-depth and personal look into Sulli’s life and career

Meanwhile, Dear Jinri — directed by Jung Yoon-suk — dives deeper into the life of Sulli, born Choi Jinri, and her journey as an artist at such a young age. The documentary, which premiered at the Busan International Film Festival, will include interviews that can give viewers a personal glimpse and an insightful view into Sulli’s life and career.

Persona: Sulli began as a second season of Netflix’s Persona, starring South Korean actress and singer IU. Sulli was reportedly filming the series before her untimely and tragic death in 2019. She was 25.

Sulli started her career as a child actress in 2005 in the South Korean drama Ballad of Seodong before debuting as a member of the K-Pop girl group f(x). The group — consisting of Krystal, Victoria, Amber, Luna, and Sulli — released several hits like “Rum Pum Pum Pum,” “Electric Shock,” “Hot Summer,” “Pinocchio (Danger),” and “Red Light.”

Sulli then left the group in 2015 and returned to the music scene in 2018, having collaborated on Dean’s single “Dayfly,” as well as releasing her debut single “Goblin” in 2019. The song also serves as her final musical release.

Her other film and television credits include To the Beautiful You, Hotel del Luna, The Pirates, and Real. You can watch Sulli’s last musical project below:
