Neve Campbell Says Scream VI Offer 'Feels Disrespectful'

Neve Campbell Says Scream VI Offer Still ‘Feels Disrespectful’

During an interview with KiSS 92.5, Scream vet Neve Campbell has once again addressed her controversial exclusion from Paramount Pictures’ Scream VI after franchise writer Kevin Williamson recently expressed his support towards her decision. When asked if fan service would be enough to get her to return to the slasher franchise, Campbell seemingly confirmed that it may take a long time before she could ever rejoin future Scream movies since she still felt quite disrespected and treated unfairly by the studio’s Scream 6 offer.

“It’s a hard question because it’s a matter of principle, as well. As much as I love the characters that I’ve played and ones that I’ve had a history with, it’s also very important to me the concept of equal pay,” Campbell said (via ComicBook). “I think we’re still not there yet. I really do believe that had I been a male, that the offer would have been different. I can’t prove that, but it’s the feeling I have, and the way that I was treated was not great, and it feels disrespectful. So at what point does self-respect come into play? It needs to always be there, right?”

What to Expect in Scream 7?

Following the critical and commercial success of Scream VI, Paramount Pictures has officially ordered the development of its follow-up sequel. Scream 7 will now be directed by Happy Death Day filmmaker Christopher Landon, who will be replacing directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet or Radio Silence. Despite their exit, they will continue to serve as its executive producers.

Further details about Scream VII are still being kept under wraps. It’s also unclear if Scream VI cast members Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding will be returning for the sequel.

Scream VI also featured the return of fan favorites Courteney Cox and Hayden Panettiere, who reprised their respective roles as Gale Weathers and Kirby Reed. The latest film was able to earn a worldwide gross of over $160 million at the box office against a reported budget of around $33-35 million.
