Rose McGowan Looking to Come Out of Acting Retirement With New Animated Movie

Rose McGowan is looking to come out of acting retirement in the near future.

Appearing on the Celebrity Catch Up: Life After That Thing I Did podcast, McGowan said she was looking to get back into acting with a new animated movie.

McGowan was one of the first people to publicly accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault. Unhappy with the support she received from the industry, she largely stepped away from acting. She has since released a memoir about her experiences, Brave, which was published in 2018.

Now, McGowan says she “might be changing [her] mind” on retiring from acting.

“I started recently missing performing,” McGowan said. “I’ve kind of become a bit nostalgic for it.”

McGowan said the project she’s specifically interested in is an animated film about dogs called Pomerania. McGowan wrote a treatment for the film and intends to voice one of the dogs.

“I wrote a 30-page treatment and they commissioned a screenplay,” she said. “It’s about mutts versus purebreds in the kingdom of Pomerania, who will go to any length to see their breed rule all.”

McGowan has been eyeing Pomerania for some time

McGowan has spoken about Pomerania before, as she told The Hollywood Reporter in 2019 that she wanted to direct the film. “It’s about a little dog who hides in the closet, and once she comes out of the closet she becomes the queen of a land called Pomerania,” she McGowan at the time. “And she’s at war with Muttlandia, where all the mutts are. So, it’s all about race, breed, classism — and it’s very funny.”

Speaking about her reasons for quitting acting, McGowan told The Hollywood Reporter, “People in Hollywood have not been brave enough to step up for me as I stepped up for them. Because I helped to clean out the system and they haven’t been brave in return. So, I do miss performing but I feel like acting is in the past, mostly because of the lack of support that I’ve gotten.”

McGowan is largely known for playing Paige Matthews in Charmed. She’s also appeared in 1995’s The Doom Generation, 1996’s Scream, 2007’s Grindhouse, and more.
