Tiffany Haddish Never Made Any Money From Her First Movie: ‘Not a Penny’

Tiffany Haddish revealed she never made a penny from her first movie.

In a video interview with the Associated Press, per Variety, Haddish said she was supposed to make $1,200 for appearing in her first movie. That never happened, however, as Haddish says she’s yet to receive a single cent.

“My very first movie I ever did that I was a star in, I was homeless when I was shooting that movie. They were supposed to pay me $1,200 to do the movie. I wasn’t in a union. It was a non-union film, so there was nothing I could do about it. They never paid me. They never paid me a dime. The producers gave me 10 DVDs and said, ‘Sell those, good luck.’

“I never saw the movie. Then Girls Trip comes out in 2017 and that movie is all over BET, VH1…It’s everywhere, that movie. And I don’t get a dime. It’s the second worst movie I was ever in. And not a penny.”

Haddish’s first credited film appearance as an actor on IMDB is 2005’s The Urban Demographic, though it’s not immediately clear if that is the movie she’s referring to. Along with Girls Trip, she’s also starred in titles such as 2018’s The Oath, 2021’s Bad Trip, 2021’s The Card Counter, and 2023’s Haunted Mansion.

Tiffany Haddish made $80,000 from Girls Trip

In 2020, Haddish told the Huffington Post she only made $80,000 for her breakout performance in Girls Trip. She used that money to pay off the house she bought after starring in The Carmichael Show.

Haddish’s comments come at a time when both the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) are on strike. The organizations are lobbying for better pay for writers and actors, protection against artificial intelligence, and more.
