Barbie: Mattel CEO Reveals His Reaction to Movie’s Initial Script

Mattel CEO Ynon Keri has revealed his reaction to Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach’s initial Barbie script.

In a new report from The New York Times, per ComicBook, Keri and other Mattel executives have shared how they felt after reading the script to 2023’s Barbie for the first time.

“It was deep, provoking, unconventional, and imaginative,” Kreiz said. “It was everything I was hoping it would be.”

“It was like going on this crazy ride,” Mattel Films head Robbie Brenner added. After making her way through the screenplay, Brenner told Kreiz, “I’ve read a lot of scripts, and this is so different. It’s special. You don’t get this feeling many times in an entire career.”

Barbie is headed to streaming

On September 5, 2023, it was announced that Barbie is hitting Premium Digital Ownership at home for $29.99 and 48-hour rental via PVOD for $24.99 on September 12, 2023.

“To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place,” the official synopsis reads. “Unless you have a full-on existential crisis. Or you’re a Ken.”

Barbie released in United States theaters on July 21, 2023. So far, the film has brought in approximately $1.386 billion at the worldwide box office, making it the 15th highest-grossing film of all-time and the highest-grossing film directed by a woman.

Barbie is currently playing in theaters.
