Classic Clint Eastwood Thriller Play Misty for Me Is Getting a 4K UHD Release

Clint Eastwood‘s 1971 directorial debut is getting a new lease of life as Play Misty for Me is receiving a 4K UHD physical release.

The thriller sees Californian disc jockey Dave Garver (Eastwood) engage in a fling with an obsessed fan Evelyn (Jessica Walter of Archer fame). Dave soon discovers Evelyn is invading his everyday life, and when he tries to reconnect with an on/off girlfriend once again, Evelyn goes full-tilt bananas and becomes deadly to Dave and anyone in his life.

Kino Cult is releasing the 4K disc and features a brand new HDR Dolby Vision master from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative.

Play Misty for Me: An Unnerving Performance From Jessica Walter

Jessica Walter received plenty of praise for the performance, which clearly inspired plenty of other actors in the years following Play Misty For Me. Her flip-flopping personality makes for a very unsettling experience. The film also features Escape From Alcatraz and Invasion of the Body Snatchers director Don Siegel.

Eastwood has been in the directorial chair many times since his first effort 52 years ago. Those include Unforgiven, The Bridges of Madison County, Million Dollar Baby, Sully, and his most recent effort Cry Macho, which saw him return to the Western genre he’s synonymous with.

The Play Misty For Me 4K UHD release date is currently unknown, but Kino Cult says it’s coming soon, so hopefully it won’t be all that far off.
