Warner Bros. is about to fish Meg 2: The Trench from the theatrical tank and relocate it to our homes as it confirmed the VOD release date for the movie.
From tomorrow, August 25, 2023, Meg 2: The Trench will be available to rent or buy digitally on the usual digital platforms. Rentals will cost $19.99, and owning a digital copy will set you back $24.99 if you can’t wait for a full home release.
The film has been in theaters for just three weeks, and domestically it has performed poorly, but overseas sales have seen it close in on $320 million worldwide. Warner bros. has sent most of its big hitters to home release early by industry standards this year. The likes of Evil Dead Rise and The Flash had similarly swift turnovers.
Megalodon Deal
It won’t be too surprising if subscribers to Max get to watch Meg 2 on Max in the coming weeks if those other films are anything to go by, so patience will benefit anyone on the fence about renting the movie at home tomorrow.
Meg 2 The Trench is directed by Ben Wheatley of Kill List and High Rise fame, and sees Jason Statham reprise the role of Jonas Taylor from the 2018 film The Meg, which is based (loosely) on the novel by Steve Alten. The sequel ups the giant sea creature count considerably but has been poorly received by critics.
Internationally, Meg 2: The Trench probably won’t be heading home just yet, so the movie has a chance to get a bit closer to the $527 million box office of its predecessor.
