Elemental

Elemental Will ‘Certainly Be Profitable’ According to Pixar President

Elemental will be a profitable movie, according to Pixar president Jim Morris.

This new Pixar animated movie had a slow start at the box office, earning only $29.5 million domestically and $44.5 million globally. This was the worst box office opening weekend in the history of the animation studio. “It was certainly disappointing from a revenue point of view,” Morris told Variety. We felt pretty good about the film. We had a higher hope for its opening weekend, so we were a bit crestfallen.”

However, the film’s box office has picked up, earning $148 million in North America and $425 million worldwide. “The numbers were falling off so little,” Morris says. “In some markets, it would be a 12% drop from the week before, and we had a handful of markets where [ticket sales] were rising. You just don’t see that in this day and age. You typically expect a 50% drop on an average basis. We thought, ‘Well, that’s cool.'”

“We have a lot of different revenue streams, but at the box office we’re looking at now, it should do better than break even theatrically,” Morris continues. “And then we have revenue from streaming, theme parks, and consumer products. This will certainly be a profitable film for the Disney company.”

When is Elemental coming to Disney+?

It is currently projected to arrive on Disney+ on September 13, 2023. No official date has been reported yet.
