Barbie Movie House Was Based on Psycho

A house in the Barbie movie was inspired by Alfred Hitckcock’s famous thriller Psycho.

Greta Gerwig’s new fantasy comedy movie stars Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. The movie has been a hit among critics, performing very well at the box office. One of the funniest moments in the movie is when Stereotypical Barbie (Robbie) must pay a visit to Weird Barbie (Kate McKinnon), who lives in a strange house secluded from the rest of the Barbies.

Production designer Sarah Greenwood shared her thoughts on building Weird Barbie’s house. “One of my early references is that you go up the stairs, and there’s the ‘Psycho’ house, and we brought in other elements.” Its design was deliberately skewed with everything pushed out of shape and out of order,” she told Variety.

““It has a swimming pool in front, and we painted a shark at the bottom of it,” she adds. “We added Weird Barbie’s cat. Like everything else, it’s camouflaged. But her cat is 4 ft. 6 in. and it’s a cutout looking at the shark.”

Who is in the Barbie movie cast?

The film stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Scott Evans, Kate McKinnon, Ariana Greenblatt, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Hari Nef, Will Ferrell, Helen Mirren, Dua Lipa, and more.

Barbie is now playing in theaters.
