Mace: Shia LaBeouf Joins Action Thriller’s Cast

Deadline is reporting that Shia LaBeouf has joined the cast of the action thriller Mace. LaBeouf will star alongside Trevor Jackson in this drama about corruption and racism within the police system. Mace is expected to begin production later this year in New Jersey. Additional casting is underway.

LaBeouf has not appeared in a film since 2020’s Pieces of a Woman. However, the 36-year-old will next be seen in Abel Ferrara’s Padre Pio, which arrives in the U.S. on June 2. LaBeouf recently wrapped production on Megalopolis, the highly-anticipated sci-fi epic from Francis Ford Coppola. In addition to Mace, LaBeouf recently joined the cast of David Mamet’s JFK thriller, Assassination.

What to Expect in Mace?

“Mace is the harrowing story of two very different types of cops – a veteran officer Mace (LaBeouf), dangerous and corrupt, and Virgil Woods (Jackson), a young rookie who believes that he can change the system that fosters cops like Mace from within,” the official synopsis reads. “It’s inspired by the recent racial injustice on the streets of America and Woods refuses to be bullied and pits his principles against the amoral Mace. Woods risks everything he believes to stop Mace from destroying the city when Mace unleashes a gang war to cover up his crimes. Everyone around Mace is in danger as Mace plays his game and tries to conceal his tracks, no matter the cost.”

Mace is directed by Jon Amiel from a screenplay by David Chisholm. Amiel has not directed a feature film since 2009’s Creation. However, the veteran British director has spent most of the last decade in television, directing episodes of The Walking Dead, The Cleaning Lady, and American Gods.

John Evangelides, Lawrence Steven Meyers, Robert Maclean, and Randy Dannenberg will produce. Kirk D’Amico and Brendan McDonald will executive produce. Tribune Pictures will also co-produce and co-finance Mace.

Myriad Pictures is currently shopping Mace at the Cannes Film Festival.
