Bella: Samara Weaving to Lead Paramount’s Next Action Thriller

According to Deadline, Ready or Not star Samara Weaving has signed on for the leading role in Paramount Pictures’ upcoming action thriller titled Bella. The project will be set in the 1980s, where Weaving is set to play a young woman who’s seeking justice against corrupt police officers responsible for the assassination attempt on her father.

Bella cleverly reinvents the female-led action genre pairing a sexy and unapologetic rock ‘n’ roll edge with the gritty heightened realism of ’80s New York City,” producer Craig Flores said in a statement. “Collaborating with Chad Stahelski and 87Eleven, whose talent is singular in bringing unparalleled action films to worldwide audiences, is a dream for me, Larysa, and Samara.”

Bella will be directed by Larysa Kondracki (Better Call Saul) from a screenplay written by Jason Markarian with Jesse Wigutow working on the revisions of the most recent draft. The film will be produced by Flores (Crawl) for Bread & Circuses Entertainment and Chad Stahelski (John Wick films) for 87eleven Entertainment, with Alex Young and Jason Spitz executive producing.

“Set against the backdrop of a crime wave that gripped New York City in the ’80s, Bella is a hyper-stylized action thriller about a cop’s daughter who, as her father clings to life following an assassination attempt, goes on a rampage to unearth her father’s attacker and weed out deep-rooted corruption in the New York City Police Department,” reads the synopsis.

Weaving’s notable film credits include The Babysitter, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Guns Akimbo, and Bill & Ted Face the Music. She has most recently been seen in Damien Chazelle’s star-studded period dramedy Babylon and in Scream VI, which reunited her with her Ready or Not filmmakers.
