Chris Pratt & Charlie Day Poke Fun at The Super Mario Bros. Movie Backlash

When Chris Pratt and Charlie Day were announced to be playing Mario and Luigi in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, fans immediately questioned the choices. In a recent Instagram video, both stars poked fun at the reaction, showcasing different voices for their characters.

In a recent post on Chris Pratt’s Instagram, both he and Day are seen with Mario and Luigi filters over their face, respectively. Pratt then pokes fun at how everyone can’t wait to hear his Mario voice, before delivering a classic “It’s-a-me, Mario” in a gruff, deep tone. Day then “reveals” his Luigi voice, but instead just mouths words without saying anything.

The film stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is being directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (collaborators on Teen Titans Go! To the Movies) from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel (The LEGO Movie 2: The Second PartMinions: The Rise of Gru). Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto are producing. Nintendo and Universal Pictures are co-financing the project.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is currently slated to premiere on April 7, 2023.
