Vin Diesel Wants Robert Downey Jr. In Fast & Furious 11

The Fast & Furious franchise is known for having an absolutely star-studded cast. If Vin Diesel could have his way for the 11th and final film, he’d get one more huge name involved.

Speaking to Variety, Diesel was asked if there were any potential dream castings the star had in mind for the final entry in the Fast & Furious saga. Without hesitation, Diesel said he’d love to get Robert Downey Jr. involved somehow and even pitched how Downey Jr. could play a man promoting A.I. and driverless cars as the total antithesis of Diesel’s Dom Toretto.

Check out the video of Diesel talking about Downey Jr. below:

“Without telling you too much about what happens in the future, there’s a character who is the antithesis of Dom who is promoting A.I. and driverless cars and a philosophy that with that goes your freedom,” Diesel said. “There is somebody that believes that’s the future, and that’s at direct odds with the Toretto mentality.”

Despite having the role already dreamt up for him, Diesel wouldn’t confirm whether or not he actually pitched the role to the legendary actor. Instead, he simply laughed off the question, saying he had too much pride and dignity to answer.

Since starring as Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a decade, Downey Jr. has taken on less roles in the past couple of years. After starring in 2020’s Dolittle, his next acting role will be in the highly anticipated Christopher Nolan film Oppenheimer, where he’ll play former U.S. Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Lewis Strauss.

Fast X is being directed by Transporter director Louis Leterrier, who took over the role from Justin Lin after Lin suddenly exited the project due to creative differences. The film is written by Lin and Dan Mazeau, with Lin still attached as a producer.

Diesel, Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, John Cena, Jason Statham, and Scott Eastwood reprise their respective roles in the film. The tenth installment also features the additions of franchise newcomers Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), and Alan Ritchson (Reacher).
