Evangeline Lilly: It’s Time for a Solo Wasp Movie

Evangeline Lilly has been a mainstay in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but now, she thinks it’s time for The Wasp to get her own standalone film.

Speaking to Variety during the premiere of the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Lilly was asked how long she’d like to keep playing Hope van Dyne. Lilly then took the moment to make her own pitch to the folks at Marvel Studios, saying she thinks it’s time that Hope got her own movie.

“Well, I’m going to make a pitch that, I think it might be time for a Hope [van Dyne] spin-off,” said Lilly. “For a Wasp standalone film. Do we agree? Anybody? Going once? Going twice?”

Lilly made her MCU debut in 2015’s Ant-Man, and has since appeared in two other projects, including 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, and the 2019 blockbuster Avengers: Endgame. She’ll next appear alongside Paul Rudd in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and will presumably also appear in the future Avengers ensemble films planned years down the line.

The upcoming sequel will also introduce MCU newcomer Kathryn Newton (The SocietyFreaky) as she now takes over the role of Cassie Lang. Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors plays Marvel villain Kang the Conqueror, while Ghostbusters star Bill Murray appears as Lord Krylar. In addition, The Good Place alum William Jackson Harper has also been tapped to appear as Quaz.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania is once again being directed by Peyton Reed from a screenplay written by Jeff Loveness, and is slated to premiere on February 17, 2023.
