Hugh Jackman Remembers the Moment He Regretted Retiring as Wolverine

Hugh Jackman Recalls When He Regretted Retiring as Wolverine

Hugh Jackman’s time as Wolverine seemingly came to an end in 2017’s Logan. However, in a recent video shared to social media, Jackman revealed exactly when he knew that leaving the role behind might have been a mistake.

In a recent video shared to Twitter, Jackman can be seen speaking to someone on the computer and recalling when he saw the very first Deadpool movie. According to the actor, that moment was exactly when he knew he might have messed up in stepping away from the role of Wolverine, even referencing the Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy film 48 Hrs.

“If I’m honest, twenty minutes into the Deadpool movie, all I kept seeing was 48 Hrs., the Nick Nolte/Eddie Murphy movie. I was like ‘Damnit, damnit. What have I done? What have I done? Nope, you said no. That’s it. It’s done, ok, I’m done.'”

Of course, while everyone thought the idea of Deadpool and Wolverine teaming up in a film was impossible, the crew behind Deadpool 3 have found a way. Now, Jackman will get the chance to star in a film that takes place in the overarching Marvel Cinematic Universe, although it remains unclear exactly how the film will fit into the MCU.

Deadpool 3 is being written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick from a previous draft by Bob’s Burgers duo Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige previously assured fans that it will remain an R-rated film — just like the first two movies, which would make it the studio’s first movie with said mature rating.

It will serve as the first movie in the Deadpool film series to be released following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. The film is currently scheduled to release on November 8, 2024.

The first two Deadpool films are both box-office successes, as they earned a combined worldwide gross of over $1.5 billion. They were both written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, with the first one directed by Tim Miller and Deadpool 2 directed by David Leitch.
