Jon M. Chu, the two-time Step Up franchise helmer who has gone on to direct films like G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never and the upcoming Jem and the Holograms and Now You See Me 2, is getting ready to return to the world of dance for Can’t Touch This, a high school dance comedy set in the 1990s. Deadline has the news, reporting that Chu will produce Can’t Touch This with no word given yet as to whether or not he might also direct.
The film set up at Focus Features, the idea for Can’t Touch This originated with Chu and producing partner Hieu Ho, who then set “The Goldbergs” writers Steve Basilone and Annie Mebane to script.
Can’t Touch This will be produced by both Chu and Ho.
