Waller-Bridge’s character, named Helena according to a recent profile on the film by Empire, will enter the film as a pivotal part of the story, although it’s unknown exactly what she’ll get up to. According to Waller-Bridge herself, Helena is “a mystery and a wonder,” while director James Mangold describes her as “slippery, charming, the girl next door, a grifter.” Harrison Ford took the time to call her “a pioneer in ethical accounting.”

While Waller-Bridge couldn’t talk much about her character, she did describe how she got the role, saying that it all came from a conversation with producer Kathleen Kennedy, and ended with her quickly reading the script and saying yes.

“Kathy was in London and asked to have dinner with me, and casually mentioned this,” recalls Waller-Bridge. “I immediately ordered ten bottles of wine. Then it was the fastest I’ve ever read a script; I came out of a sort of haze afterward. I just couldn’t believe how much fun I had and how moved I was by it. And then I had a Zoom and screamed, ‘Yes!’ at them all.”

Indiana Jones 5 will once again be led by Harrison Ford as he reprises one of his most iconic roles as the titular explorer. Joining him as the female lead is Emmy and Golden Globe winner Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The final installment will also feature the introduction of other franchise newcomers Antonio Banderas, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, and Shaunette Renée Wilson, who have been cast in undisclosed roles.

The long-awaited film is being directed by Oscar nominee James Mangold (Logan) from a new screenplay he is co-writing with Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, who collaborated on Ford v Ferrari. Despite his exit, he will still remain part of the film’s production as a producer.

Indiana Jones 5 will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, original franchise director Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel, with John Williams returning to score the film. It is set to be released in theaters on June 30, 2023.
