Now that a Gears of War movie is officially in the works, one actor who has been rumored to star in the film for some time has formally thrown his hat into the ring.

In a recent tweet, Bautista shared a video of footage he had previously filmed in 2019 for Gears of War 5, in which Bautista opens up a crate containing the armor characters wear in the game. While that video was for Bautista’s inclusion into the game as a DLC character, the new tweet is in reference to the recently announced film.

The tweet’s caption notes, “I can’t make this any easier,” referencing the fact that Bautista has not been shy in his desire to play Marcus Fenix in the past.

For Bautista, the role of Fenix has been something he’s been trying to get for some time now. He told GameSpot in 2018 that it would be a “dream role” and tweeted the following year that he had tried everything in his power to get it to happen. Bautista continued this campaign in 2021 by telling Collider that he had a meeting with Universal to speak about The Fast and the Furious, but actually turned down a role in the iconic franchise, instead asking about how to make a Gears of War film happen.

“They wanted to talk to me about Fast and the Furious, and I said ‘I’m not interested, let’s talk about [Gears of War character] Marcus Fenix,’” Bautista said in the interview. Although his pleas have fallen on deaf ears in the past, it seems like he has never given up hope of landing his ideal role.
