Scream 6: Jenna Ortega Says Fans Won’t Notice Neve Campbell’s Absence

When Scream 6 releases, franchise star and legend Neve Campbell won’t be around due to contract negotiations that ended in the star leaving the film. Jenna Ortega, who is set to star in the sixth film once again, thinks that despite Campbell not being in the film, audiences will be too distracted to notice.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in a recent interview, Ortega was asked about the absence of Campbell in Scream 6. While Ortega couldn’t say too much, she did note that “there’s so much going on” in the film, that audiences may be too distracted to notice.

“I feel like I can’t really speak too much on that just because it’s not necessarily my character,” Ortega stated. “But I will say there’s so much going on in this next one, that it’s so action-heavy and so gore-heavy, that I think you’re gonna be distracted almost.”

However, Ortega did note that, while Campbell might not be in the film, there are clear references to her character, and still a “protectiveness” over her in the script, due to how respected she is amongst the fans and the cast themselves.

“But it’s very clear, like, there’s references to Sidney, of course,” said Ortega. “You know, it’s nice because there’s still a protectiveness in the script and that’s something that the actors had naturally over her because obviously we respect her and we want the best for her. She’s missed and thought of.”

Campbell’s departure from the series is a shocking one, as she’s been a mainstay in every Scream film. However, Campbell revealed that she was forced to turn down the opportunity to come back because she felt the offer that was presented to her “did not equate to the value” that she feels she’s brought to the franchise.
