Interstellar Gets Widest-Ever Global IMAX Release

Matthew McConaughey is destined to go where no man has gone before: 760 IMAX screens. That number encompasses the largest worldwide rollout for any movie in IMAX’s history, and Christopher Nolan’s space odyssey Interstellar is the perfect launching pad to expand the company’s brand. IMAX has also commissioned a special limited edition Interstellar collector print designed by Gallery 1988 artist Kevin Dart to be given away at showings on Friday, Nov 7, which you can check out below!

The Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures release will screen on over 760 of the large format screens worldwide over the course of its run, including 390 international IMAX locations and 370 domestic when it takes flight in North America tonight, Tuesday, Nov. 4.

“We’ve been gearing up for the IMAX release of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar for several months now, and we couldn’t be more excited to break down the doors in record-setting fashion,” said Greg Foster, Senior Executive Vice President, IMAX Corp. and CEO of IMAX Entertainment. “This is truly going to be a cinematic event, and IMAX is committed to giving the film a widest possible audience.”

Director Christopher Nolan (who shot Interstellar on both anamorphic 35mm and in the IMAX format) remains a stalwart supporter of physical film, so it’s no surprise that approximately 50 IMAX locations worldwide will present Interstellar in IMAX 70-millimeter film. To help celebrate the film release of Interstellar, Paramount Pictures is releasing the movie to 42 domestic IMAX film-based locations on Nov. 4 , two days ahead of its nationwide launch. The international IMAX roll-out will begin on Nov. 6 and will also include a China release in approximately 170 IMAX theatres on Nov. 12 .

Interstellar chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage. The film stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Ellen Burstyn, John Lithgow, Michael Caine, Casey Affleck, Wes Bentley, Bill Irwin, Mackenzie Foy, Topher Grace and David Gyasi.
