Box Office Results: Halloween Ends Takes Crown Before Black Adam Arrives

As expected, David Gordon Green’s Halloween Ends took the crown at the domestic box office.

However, Halloween Ends earned a less-than-expected $41.2 million in its opening frame, per Deadline. The numbers were obviously diluted by the pic’s curious day-and-date release on Peacock, where it became the most-watched film or series on the streaming platform to date. Why this one ended up on Peacock is anyone’s guess, but the gist is that lots of people watched the finale — even if it opened roughly $8 million less than its predecessor Halloween Kills.

Elsewhere in the world of horror, Paramount’s Smile dipped 33% in its third frame, earning another $12.4 million to bring its domestic total to $41.2 million. Likewise, the Iconic release Terrifier 2, which apparently has audiences throwing up in the theater, increased 6% in its second weekend with $850,000 and has amassed $2.2 million thus far.

David O. Russell’s dud Amsterdam didn’t fare any better in Week 2, snagging a meager $2.89 million (down 54%) to bring its total to $12 million. While Bros likewise continues to flounder, earning just $900,000 (down 58%) in Week 3 to raise its cume to $10.8 million.

This week sees the release of the Dwayne Johnson superhero epic Black Adam, which will have the marketplace to itself until Black Panther 2 hits theaters on November 11.
