Christian Bale Filmed R-Rated Scenes as Gorr in Thor: Love and Thunder

Christian Bale’s portrayal of Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder was a darker and more creepy performance than we’ve seen from many MCU villains. However, according to Bale, he was ready to take it even further.

Speaking to Inverse about his role in the film, Bale revealed that he actually shot some R-rated scenes for the film that he knew wouldn’t end up making it in the final film.

“With Thor: Love and Thunder, Taika and me, we kind of knew that some of the stuff we were doing probably wouldn’t end up in the film, but we wanted to just push it and see. Ultimately, it is and should be a film that all the family can go and enjoy,” said Bale.

Bale also revealed that at times during filming, Chris Hemsworth would look at him and jokingly note that he was going a bit too far with the character. While scenes didn’t end up making it into the final cut of the film, Bale said he did enjoy filming them and going through them.

“And Chris Hemsworth, a couple of times he looked at me it was like, ‘Dude, that’s a little too far. I don’t think anyone’s gonna want to see that unless it’s an R-rated film’,” Bale said. “But it was a great joy to give it a shot. And we had a lot of fun in there doing certain scenes and takes on certain scene choices, even if they didn’t end up in the final cut.”

Unfortunately for fans, it remains unknown if we’ll ever see the scenes Bale is referring to, as director Taika Waititi has been staunchly adamant about the fact that most of the deleted scenes for the film were not used because they weren’t good enough. In the meantime, fans will have to just imagine what the scenes might have been.
