Harry Styles ‘Did Not Spit’ on Co-Star, Chris Pine Issues Statement

It’s official: Harry Styles isn’t a spitter.

Through his representative, Chris Pine has debunked the fan theory that Harry Styles spit on the actor during the debut of Don’t Worry Darling at the Venice Film Festival. Video of the alleged spitting incident, which some have dubbed “Spitgate,” has gone viral in the past 24 hours. Through memes and legitimate video breakdowns, the debate has been endless on whether or not Styles spat on his co-star.

Thankfully, we now have some resolution as Chris Pine’s representative issued a statement debunking the matter.

“This is a ridiculous story — a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation,” the rep told Variety. “Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine. There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist.”

Variety also reports that there “was no tension around Styles and Pine during the premiere.” That’s good since there’s already enough drama surrounding the Olivia Wilde-helmed film.

Described as an audacious, twisted, and visually stunning psychological thriller, Don’t Worry Darling is directed by Wilde from a screenplay written by Katie Silberman, based on a story by Carey Van Dyke, Shane Van Dyke, and Silberman. It stars Oscar nominee Florence Pugh (Little WomenMidsommar), Styles (Dunkirk), Gemma Chan (Eternals), KiKi Layne (The Old Guard), Pine (All the Old Knives), and Wilde.
