Netflix’s Animated Pic Scrooge: A Christmas Carol Adds Olivia Colman & More

Netflix has announced the full cast of its forthcoming animated film Scrooge: A Christmas Carol, based on Charles Dickens’ timeless novel. Leading the cast are Oscar winner Olivia Colman (The Mitchells vs. the Machines), Oscar nominee Jessie Buckley (The Lost Daughter), and Luke Evans (Beauty and the Beast), who will be lending their voices to the respective roles of Ghost of Christmas Past, Isabel Fezziwig, and Scrooge.

“It’s been a fascinating challenge to adapt such a beloved and often-told story and I think this version will give those who know A Christmas Carol all the things they expect but not as they’ve experienced them before,” director Stephen Donnelly said in a statement (via Deadline). “There are more than enough psychedelic, time-traveling, and musical surprises to keep those familiar with the story on the edge of their seats.”

In addition, Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes), Johnny Flynn (Emma), Fra Fee (Hawkeye), Giles Terera (Hamilton), Trevor Dion Nicholas (Aladdin: Live from the West End), and James Cosmo (Braveheart) have also been cast. Pryce is set as the voice of Jacob Marley, while Flynn will be Bob Cratchit.

“Charles Dickens’ ageless legend is reborn in this supernatural, time-traveling, musical adaptation of the definitive Christmas story,” reads the synopsis. “With his very soul on the line, Scrooge has but one Christmas Eve left to face his past and build a better future.”
