New Fast X director

Fast X Sets Former Transporter Director as Justin Lin’s Replacement

One week after the surprising departure of director Justin Lin from Fast X, Universal Pictures has found a replacement.

Per Variety, taking over for Lin will be a newcomer to the series: Louis Leterrier. However, Leterrier is far from a newcomer to the action genre as he’s directed 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, and the first two films in the Transporter series starring Jason Statham. Leterrier is said to be the first choice for Universal as the replacement and “beat out numerous candidates.” Most recently, the director worked on The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and Lupin for Netflix. A new production schedule is currently being hashed out for the film.

The tenth installment will also feature the additions of franchise newcomers  Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad), and Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), with Momoa expected to portray the antagonist.

Based on the characters created by Gary Scott Thompson, the latest installment took the family around the globe from London to Tokyo, from Central America to Edinburgh, and from a secret bunker in Azerbaijan to the teeming streets of Tbilisi. Along the way, old friends will be resurrected, old foes will return, history will be rewritten, and the true meaning of family will be tested like never before.

The franchise began in 2001 with the release of Fast & Furious, which was followed by a number of sequels, spin-offs, video games, and merchandise. The cinematic franchise currently has a combined worldwide gross of more than $6 billion.
