Netflix’s Fantasy Film Damsel Adds Robin Wright, Nick Robinson, & More

Following the recent addition of Angela Bassett as Lady Bayford, Deadline brings word that Emmy nominee Robin Wright (The Princess BrideHouse of Cards), Nick Robinson (Love, Simon), Ray Winstone (Black Widow), Brooke Carter (The Alienist), and Oscar nominee Shohreh Aghdashloo (House of Sand and Fog) have been cast to join Netflix’s newest coming-of-age fantasy film Damsel. They will officially be joining previously announced leading star Millie Bobby Brown, who is set to portray the role of Princess Elodie.

Damsel will be directed by Oscar-nominated Spanish filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, adapted from a screenplay written by Wrath of the Titans scribe Dan Mazeau. In addition to starring, Brown is also expected to serve as an executive producer through her PCMA Productions banner along with Zack Roth, Chris Castaldi, and Mazeau. Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum have also boarded the project as producers.

“It will center around a young princess with a fierce warrior spirit named Princess Elodie, as she finds herself in an arranged marriage with their rival kingdom’s Prince Henry,” reads the synopsis. “However, her situation gets more complicated when she learns that their rival kingdom has a despicable harvest season tradition of sacrificing their princess to a hungry dragon. Now, Elodie must fight off the dragon for her survival.”

Millie Bobby Brown gained worldwide recognition for her breakthrough role as Eleven in Netflix’s hit sci-fi series Stranger Things, which earned the young actress her first Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She will once again reprise the role in the long-awaited final two seasons.
