According to The Hollywood Reporter, Skarsgard — who is best known for playing Pennywise the Clown in the It films — will star in the upcoming reboot of the supernatural revenge film. The Crow remake will be directed by Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman, Ghost in the Shell) and produced by Edward R. Pressman and Malcolm Gray, the former of which was a producer on the original film as well.

The report goes on to mention that, besides Skarsgard set to play Eric Draven, the film will be written by Zach Baylin, who is fresh off of being nominated for an Academy Award for his writing on the King Richard script. The film will reportedly begin production in June, which seems to hint that the film is going to happen, unlike past remakes, the most recent of which was set to star Jason Momoa.

The history of Momoa’s role in a reboot of The Crow is a long one, with Momoa having taken over in the starring role after Luke Evans and Jack Huston both departed the role in 2014. Corin Hardy (The Hallow) was attached to direct the film. However, after moving from Relativity Media to Sony in 2015, the film remained in limbo, and both Hardy and Momoa eventually left the project in 2018 over differences behind the project.

The Crow is a supernatural dark fantasy comic book series from James O’Barr that tells the story of a man who is brought back to life to avenge his murder and the death of his fiancée. The series was famously adapted into a film in 1994 starring Brandon Lee, which became notorious following his tragic death on the set of the film.

Since the 1994 film, various reboot attempts have been made, including one that saw Jason Momoa set to star in a remake. However, that film didn’t stick, and now it looks like studios are moving forward with a different vision for adapting The Crow once again.
