Ben Affleck Details George Clooney’s Spectacular Feedback as a Director

“First of all, I always wanted to work with George as an actor, because [Matt Damon] always said the guy is spectacular to work with,” Affleck said. “I’ll tell you what it was for me. Imagine working for a guy who’s done your job at the highest level for longer than you have, right? So George, his notes are just so f—– sharp … George will go ‘You know what? I like leaning forward, wait until the second line,’ or ‘It’s great what you’re doing, I see that, it’s too small, bring it up a little bit at the end.'”

The Tender Bar is directed by George Clooney from a screenplay written by Oscar-winning scribe William Monahan, based on Pulitzer Prize-winner J.R. Moehringer’s memoir of the same name. The film stars Ben Affleck (Argo), Tye Sheridan (The Card Counter), Lily Rabe (American Horror Story), Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future trilogy), Max Martini (Saving Private Ryan), Rhenzy Feliz (Marvel’s The Runaways), and more.

“It tells the story of J.R. (Sheridan), a fatherless boy growing up in the glow of a bar where the bartender, his Uncle Charlie (Affleck), is the sharpest and most colorful of an assortment of quirky and demonstrative father figures,” reads the synopsis. “As the boy’s determined mother (Rabe) struggles to provide her son with opportunities denied to her — and leave the dilapidated home of her outrageous if begrudgingly supportive father (Lloyd) — J.R. begins to gamely, if not always gracefully, pursue his romantic and professional dreams — with one foot persistently placed in Uncle Charlie’s bar.”
