Jennifer Aniston: ‘I’d Love to Work With Wes Anderson’

Jennifer Aniston has had a very long and very successful career in Hollywood, but the actress is always open to new opportunities, and in a new interview, said she hopes to one day expand her work.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Aniston was asked how she thinks the world of Hollywood sees her compared to how she sees herself as an actor. Aniston noted that for a large portion of her career, she was typecast as a typical “girl next door” character, but time has changed that.

“I was the girl next door, the damsel in distress, the brokenhearted — your traditional rom-com themes,” Aniston said. “And at a certain point, it was like, ‘Can’t we do something else? Am I just on this part of the cereal aisle? Like, will I ever get to be a bountiful Kashi or some sort of oatmeal, or am I going to be Fruit Loops forever?’ And then you start to doubt yourself. ‘Maybe I can’t? Maybe there’s a reason that no one [is giving me these opportunities]?’

“Now, so much is self-generated, which is great since I wasn’t going to get the jobs I’m really interested in because the industry isn’t secure enough to say, ‘Yeah, let’s try it.’ They go for the actors they know can play the fancy dramatic roles. But there are still certain directors I’d love to work with, ones who have their pick of who they like, and sometimes I want to go, ‘I’d love to be part of that club.'”

Aniston was asked to expand on the statement a bit, and revealed a surprising fact. “I’d love to work with Wes Anderson,” Aniston said. While it’s unknown if the actress will get the chance, she clearly wanted to make sure that the director and those in the world of Hollywood know that she is ready to embrace any type of role.

Aniston’s latest role in a film was in 2019’s Murder Mystery, where she starred alongside Adam Sandler in the comedy. She’ll star in the sequel as well, which is currently in the works at Netflix. Aside from film, Aniston also stars alongside Reese Witherspoon in the drama series The Morning Show, which streams exclusively Apple TV+.
