Live-Action Mega Man Movie Reportedly Headed to Netflix

A live-action Mega Man film is in the works and will be headed to Netflix, according to a recent update on production company Supermarché’s website.

The news (via Rockman Corner) was spotted on a recent updated section on Supermarché’s writing and directing team Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, both of whom founded the company.

“Henry, Rel, and their in-house producer Orlee-Rose Strauss maintain an active development slate. Features in the works include: an adaptation of Capcom’s MEGA MAN for Chernin Entertainment and Netflix, which they wrote and are directing,” reads the post.

News of a live-action Mega Man film have been circulating for some time. In 2017, Joost and Schulman were brought on to write and direct the film for 20th Century Fox, but after Disney’s acquisition of the company in 2019, the project was left up in the air, with Capcom noting it was still in development. However, after production company Chernin Entertainment signed a first-look deal with Netflix in 2020 and following Disney placing the film in turnaround — a term which saw Disney essentially sell the rights away — Netflix acquired the rights to the film.

As of now, the film looks to still be under Joost and Schulman’s supervision, with Mattson Tomlin (The Batman) set to write the script and Masai Oka attached as one of the lead producers of the film.

Netflix has had a whole host of adaptations of video game franchises, which includes some Capcom’s IP, too. Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness premiered on the platform earlier this year to poor reviews. There is also another Resident Evil series in the works for the platform, which recently revealed its cast.
