Although Tom Hardy was mentioned a few weeks as possibly joining the Western The Revenant, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu (Babel), it’s now been confirmed that the actor best known as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises will be playing a key role in the New Regency film.
Based on the novel by Michael Punke about a frontiersman who wants to get revenge on a couple of men who left him for dead after being mauled by a bear, we can assume that Hardy will probably play one of those men. (He may be taking the role that once was hoping to get Sean Penn.)
Adapted by Inarritu with Mark L. Smith, the Western produced by Steve Golin, Keith Redmon and David Kanter will start shooting this fall.
As mentioned before, We’re the Millers‘ Will Poulter is also in talks for a role in the movie.
