Disney has reportedly found its director for the upcoming Tower of Terror film, and it’s none other than Taika Waititi.
According to a recent report from The DisInsider, Waititi will take over to direct the film based on the iconic Disney amusement park ride. Scarlett Johansson was previously announced to be starring and producing the film, with a script set to come from Academy Award-winner Josh Cooley.
While Johansson and Disney had a very public back-and-forth this year regarding Johansson’s legal dispute over Disney releasing Black Widow on Disney+, that looks to have not affected the status of the Tower of Terror movie. As for Waititi, he is no stranger to working with Disney, as he’s now a mainstay in the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and just wrapped up production on Thor: Love and Thunder earlier this year.
Based on one of Disney’s classic and popular theme park attractions, The Tower of Terror film will be produced by Johansson through her These Pictures banner, alongside Jonathan Lia. The project comes after the success of Jungle Cruise starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, who are both set to reprise their roles in the recently announced sequel.
Johansson most recently starred in her last MCU movie as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow. She is currently filming in Spain for her first Wes Anderson film, and will also next be seen in Apple Studios’ romantic action-adventure film Ghosted, which reunites her with long-time collaborator Chris Evans.
