Jake Kasdan is set to direct an upcoming, Christmas-themed feature project for Amazon that will star Dwayne Johnson, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.
The film, which is tentatively titled Red One, will reunite the duo. Johnson has previously worked with Kasdan on both Jumanji films, which Kasdan directed. According to the report, Johnson’s role is unknown as of now, but he could potentially play Santa Claus himself, adding a new range to the actor’s resume.
Johnson will not only star in the upcoming feature but will produce the film with his Seven Bucks Productions banner alongside Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia. Kasdan will also produce via his The Detective Agency banner, along with Melvin Mar and Sky Salem Robinson.
Details on the upcoming film are currently being kept close to the chest, but the report did note that the film is described as “a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy, imagining a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre.” The report goes on to mention that the film will begin shooting in 2022, with a 2023 holiday release planned.
