HBO Max’s Live-Action Batgirl Movie Adds Bad Boys for Life’s Jacob Scipio

According to Deadline, Bad Boys for Life actor Jacob Scipio has officially been tapped to star opposite Leslie Grace in HBO Max’s forthcoming live-action DC film Batgirl. Further details about his character are still being kept under wraps, but the superhero film will reunite Scipio with directing duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.

The 28-year-old English actor will also next be seen in upcoming star-studded projects such as Netflix’s Toni Collette-led drama series Pieces of Her, and Lionsgate’s The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent starring Nicolas Cage. He is also currently in production for The Expendables 4.

The Batgirl movie will be led by In the Heights star Leslie Grace as she portrays the role of Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon. The live-action film will also feature the return of Oscar winner J.K. Simmons, who has signed on to reprise his role as Commissioner Gordon, which he first portrayed in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

The character was first seen in the 1967 Batman series with the late Yvonne Craig playing Barbara. Batgirl’s first comic book appearance was in Detective Comics #357 by writer Gardner Fox and artist Carmine Infantino.

Batgirl will be directed by Bad Boys for Life filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah from a screenplay written by Christina Hodson (Birds of PreyThe Flash). The film is a production by Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Films, with Kristin Burr (Cruella) producing.

Batgirl/Barbara Gordon’s last appearance in a live-action big-screen feature was in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin, released in 1997 and starring Alicia Silverstone in the role alongside George Clooney’s Batman and Chris O’Donnell’s Robin.
