The Black Phone Poster Unveils Ethan Hawke as a Masked Killer

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse have dropped the official poster for Scott Derrickson’s newest horror thriller The Black Phone, based on Joe Hill’s short story of the same name.

The Black Phone poster, which you can check out below, provides us a better look at the film’s main antagonist, portrayed by Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke, who is seen wearing his serial killer character’s terrifying mask.

The film had its world premiere last Saturday at the 2021 Fantastic Fest. It is currently slated to arrive in theaters on January 28, 2022, pitting the horror film against Sony Pictures’ long-delayed Morbius.

The Black Phone is directed by Scott Derrickson from a screenplay he co-wrote with long-time collaborator C. Robert Cargill, based on the award-winning short story by Joe Hill from his New York Times bestseller 20th Century Ghosts. The film reunites Derrickson, and Cargill with Ethan Hawke and James Ransone, who all worked together on 2012’s Sinister.

The film tells the story of Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, who is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.

Joining Hawke and Ransone are Mason Thames, Jeremy Davies, Madeleine McGraw, Brady Hepner, Jacob Moran, and Jordan Isaiah White.
