Fantastic Beasts 3 Unveils Official Title & New 2022 Release Date

Warner Bros. Pictures has officially changed the release date for the upcoming third installment to the Fantastic Beasts films, which has now been titled as Fantastic Beast: The Secrets of Dumbledore. Originally scheduled for a July 15, 2022 release, the fantasy threequel has now been moved up to three months earlier, and is currently slated to arrive in theaters on Friday, April 15, 2022. Its theatrical release date will see the Eddie Redmayne-led film going up against two different movies in the form of Paramount Pictures’ romcom adventure Lost City of D starring Sandra Bullock & Channing Tatum, and Universal Pictures’ animated film Bad Guys.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore sees the return of Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Katherine Waterston as Tina Goldstein, Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein, Ezra Miller as Credence, Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore,  Jessica Williams as Professor Eulalie Hicks, and Callum Turner as Theseus.

The threequel is also set to introduce Mads Mikkelsen (Another Round) as the new Gellert Grindelwald, the villainous character first portrayed by Johnny Depp.

“Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world,” reads the official synopsis. “Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?”

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is once again directed by David Yates from a screenplay written by J.K. Rowling and Steve Kloves. Producers are Heyman, Kloves, Rowling,  Lionel Wigram, and Tim Lewis.
