Pet Sematary Prequel Movie Adds Henry Thomas & Samantha Mathis

According to Deadline, The Haunting of Hill House star Henry Thomas, and Samantha Mathis (Billions) have officially been tapped to join Paramount Players’ forthcoming Pet Sematary prequel movie, based on Stephen King’s best-selling horror novel of the same name. Further details about its plot and characters are still being kept under wraps, but production on the project has already begun last week.

This marks Thomas’ latest Stephen King project after appearing in 2019’s film adaptation of Doctor Sleep. Besides his iconic performance in the 1982 classic film E.T., he is also best known for starring in long-time collaborator Mike Flanagan’s horror shows such The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and the upcoming Midnight Mass.

Paramount Players’ Pet Sematary prequel will be written and directed by Lindsey Beer in her feature directorial debut, based on Jeff Buhler’s draft. The movie serves as a follow-up to Paramount’s 2019 remake adaptation which starred Jason Clarke and John Lithgow.

The film will also star Jackson White, Forrest Goodluck, Jack Mulhern, Natalie Alyn Lind, Isabella Star LeBlanc, and Pam Grier.

Plot details for the upcoming movie have not yet been revealed, but it was announced back in February that the new Pet Sematary would serve as an origin story to Stephen King’s horror classic, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian producing.

King’s original story follows Dr. Louis Creed and his family who are struck by tragedy after moving to Ludlow, Maine, where Louis discovers an ancient burial ground in the nearby woods that has the power to raise the dead, but sometimes, dead is better.

The prequel will make its debut exclusively on Paramount+.
