Aussie True Crime Flick The Mule Picked Up by XLrator Media

One of the more underrated films that premiered at the South by SouthWest Film Festival back in March was the Australian true crime film The Mule, a collaboration between Saw co-creator Leigh Whannell and Angus Sampson, and it looks like XLrator Media has just picked up the rights to distribute the film in the United States.

Sampson co-wrote the film with Whannell and co-directed it with Tony Mahony, and he stars as Ray Jenkins, a local Melbourne football hero enlisted by a crime boss to smuggle drugs as a mule from Thailand back to Australia. When Ray is caught by the local authorities, he does whatever it takes to keep the illicit cargo inside himself so he can’t be convicted.

Whannell plays Ray’s best friend and teammate who gets him involved in the trafficking, and it co-stars Hugo Weaving and Ewen Leslie as the two detectives who oversee Ray’s holding, as well as Geoff Morrell, Georgina Haig, Noni Hazlehurst and John Noble.

The Mule is scheduled to be released by XLrator Media some time in the fall, but in the meantime, you can watch our video interview with Sampson and Whannell right here.
