According to The Hollywood Reporter, Golden Globe winner Kevin Bacon (Taking Chance) has officially signed on to star opposite Game of Thrones alum Peter Dinklage in Legendary’s forthcoming reboot of The Toxic Avenger. Bacon is set to portray the film’s villain, whose character details are still being kept under wraps. Production is expected to begin later this month in Bulgaria.
The Footloose actor is no stranger to the superhero genre as he also previously starred as the villains in James Gunn’s 2010 black comedy Super, and in 2011’s X-Men: First Class. His other notable film credits include Footloose, Tremors, JFK, A Few Good Men, Apollo 13, Sleepers, Flatliners, Hollow Man, and the HBO original film Taking Chance, where he earned his first Golden Globe Award for Outstanding Lead Actor.

The Toxic Avenger remake is described as a contemporary reimagining of Troma Entertainment’s 1984 cult classic dark comedy that subverts the superhero genre akin to Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool. The reboot will center around a struggling everyman transformed into a mutant freak after being pushed into a vat of toxic waste. It must become an underdog hero to save his son, his friends, and the community from the forces of corruption and greed.
