Japanese-British pop superstar Rina Sawayama is set to make her feature film acting debut in Lionsgate’s upcoming John Wick: Chapter 4 in an undisclosed starring role, joining franchise star Keanu Reeves. Chad Stahelski returns to direct the next installment from a screenplay written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch.
“I’m so glad to have Rina on board to make her feature film debut in John Wick: Chapter 4. She’s an incredible talent who’ll bring so much to the film,” said Stahelski.
No plot details on John Wick: Chapter 4 have been released. The project will begin production this summer shooting on location in France, Germany, and Japan. The film will be produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski, and executive produced by Reeves, Louise Rosner.
Born in Japan and raised in North London, Sawayama ascended to pop stardom via an unusual trajectory at Cambridge University studying politics, psychology, and sociology, and funding her early music with modeling before signing a record deal. Bolstered by eclectic, attention-grabbing singles including “XS,” “Comme des Garçons,” and “Chosen Family,” the latter recently receiving a special duet rendition with Elton John, she concluded 2020 with the deluxe edition release of SAWAYAMA. With no genre off-limits for the daring singer/songwriter/producer, Sawayama has been hailed as the “future of pop,” joining the upper-echelon of left-field pop’s premier league. Now adding acting to her resume, the entertainer will launch her first headlining world tour later in 2021.
