According to Deadline, Amazon Studios has entered final negotiations to acquire the worldwide distribution rights to Sony Pictures’ upcoming Cinderella movie which will be led by Grammy-nominated singer Camila Cabello in her feature acting debut. Originally scheduled for a July theatrical release, the musical romantic-comedy film is now slated to make its debut later this year on Amazon Prime Video.

Sony’s Cinderella was actually one of the many film productions that were temporarily shut down early last year due to the ongoing pandemic. It was able to resume filming in August and was also able to wrap up in September of last year. This also marks Sony Pictures’ latest partnership with a streaming service as their individual streaming deals with Disney+ and Netflix were just announced last month.

The film is a musically driven bold new take on the traditional Cinderella story in which our heroine is an ambitious young woman whose dreams are bigger than the world will allow. The story for the project was based on an original idea by James Corden, who is also starring and producing the film.

Cinderella will be led by Camila Cabello in her feature acting debut, who was also an integral part of the project’s music. It will feature original songs by Cabello and Idina Menzel along with pops songs from modern artists.

Joining her are Billy Porter as the fairy godparent, Idina Menzel as the evil stepmother, Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Robert, and Pierce Brosnan as the King, along with Maddie Baillio and Charlotte Spencer as the Stepsisters. It will also feature Minnie Driver, James Corden, John Mulaney, Romesh Ranganathan, Missy Elliot, Tallulah Greive, Fra Free, and more.
