Tom Cruise Sets Fall Global Press Tour for Top Gun: Maverick

Recently Paramount’s tentpole sequel Top Gun: Maverick moved its release date to November 19 from its original July 4 weekend plans. According to a source that spoke to The Hollywood Reporter, star Tom Cruise pushed for the change as he hopes to embark on a worldwide global press tour to promote the film when more movie theaters have re-opened again. It is not a move prompted to reshuffle more film slates.

A veteran studio exec was quoted as saying, “Tom Cruise is one of the few stars who can move the needle by doing late-night shows and premieres across the world.”

The National Research Group now reports that 60 percent of audiences are more comfortable going back to theaters from 52 percent just a month ago. This is likely due to restrictions lifting and vaccines becoming available for most citizens.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski from a script by Peter Craig, Justin Marks and Eric Warren Singer, Top Gun: Maverick explores the end of the dogfighting era in a world of drone technology and fifth-generation fighters. Maverick (once again played by Tom Cruise) returns and is now a flight instructor, who takes Bradley Bradshaw (played by Miles Teller), the son of Maverick’s late partner Nick “Goose” Bradshaw, under his wing. The film also stars Jon Hamm, Val Kilmer, Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell and Ed Harris.
