WB Reportedly Still Unsure About Dune Release on HBO Max

Dune: WB reportedly still unsure about film’s HBO Max release plan

When WarnerMedia first announced their same-day release plans, Legendary Entertainment and Dune director Denis Villenueve were the first ones to publicly express their disappointment with the decision. It was also previously rumored last December that Legendary was planning to sue WarnerMedia in order to challenge the HBO Max release of Godzilla vs. Kong and the highly-anticipated Dune. Despite this, both movies continue to be part of the promo videos for Warner Bros.’ simultaneous theater and HBO Max release. However, it seems the current recovery of theater chains and the resurgence of the moviegoing experience might come sooner than expected due to the recent box-office success of Godzilla vs. Kong.

According to Deadline, there is still a possibility that the Timothee Chalamet-led sci-fi action film might stick to its original theatrical release plan as Warner Bros. and Legendary are reportedly still undecided about whether the pic should also debut on HBO Max or not. With Godzilla vs. Kong‘s promising opening week numbers, it’s likely that Warner might heavily consider keeping Dune only in theaters.
