Snyder Cut draws 1.8M households in its first five minutes of release!

According to Samba TV (per Deadline), the long awaited (and very good) Zack Snyder’s Justice League drew an impressive 1.8M HBO Max households during its first five minutes of release over its opening weekend. Comparatively, Wonder Woman 1984 managed 2.2M U.S. households back in December, but the figure still remains a huge win for Snyder’s film and HBO Max.

Samba TV, which polls terrestrial smart TVs, calculated the diversity breakdown as follows: Black (+17%), Hispanic (+20%), and Asian (+18%). Territorially, San Francisco (+67%), Sacramento (+33%), and Los Angeles (+32%) were the most over-indexed out of the 25 largest markets.

Justice League managed to outperform the opening weekend of Marvel’s anticipated (and equally good) Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which attracted 1.7M households — the most viewed weekend premier ever on Disney+ according to a statement by the Mouse House.

Also, some things to consider: Wonder Woman 1984 had the benefit of a holiday release and a PG-13 rating, which meant more families could tune in. Plus, Justice League released while most schools were still in session and faced the opening weekend of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. So, however way you spin it, the opening weekend numbers are massive. It will be interesting to see how well the film performs over the coming months, especially after WarnerMedia’s Ann Sarnoff proclaimed WB had no intention of continuing Snyder’s vision.

With his faith in humanity restored following the sacrifice of Superman, Justice League centers on Bruce Wayne as he uses this emotional fuel to band together with Diana Prince to build a team of heroes — Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash — to prepare to stand together against the world-destroying threat of Steppenwolf and his maniacal master Darkseid.

The new cut of the film is based on a screenplay by Chris Terrio from an original story by Terrio, Snyder and Will Beall, and features as cast led by Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash, Ray Fisher as Victor Stone/Cyborg and Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman. Also included in the ensemble roster is Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Jim Gordon, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf and Ray Porter as Darkseid.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is currently streaming on HBO Max.
