Peter Rabbit 2 release date gets pushed back again
Sony Pictures has decided to shift the release date of their upcoming live-action comedy film Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway. Originally scheduled for a May 14 release, the James Corden-led sequel has been pushed again for the seventh time and is now set to arrive in theaters this July, just in time for Independence Day weekend. The new release date will pit the film against another long-delayed high-profile project in the form of Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible 7.
In Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, the lovable rogue is back. Bea, Thomas, and the rabbits have created a makeshift family, but despite his best efforts, Peter can’t seem to shake his mischievous reputation. Adventuring out of the garden, Peter finds himself in a world where his mischief is appreciated, but when his family risks everything to come looking for him, Peter must figure out what kind of bunny he wants to be.
Corden is once again leading an ensemble voice cast as the voice of Peter Rabbit with Margot Robbie and Elizabeth Debicki returning as the voices of Flopsy Rabbit and Mopsy Rabbit and Domhnall Gleeson and Rose Byrne are reprising their live-action roles as Thomas and Bea, while Aimee Horne has stepped in to replace Daisy Ridley in the role of Cottontail Rabbit. The sequel also features the additions of Emmy nominee David Oyelowo, Lennie James, Rupert Degas and Damon Herriman.
Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway is once again written and directed by Will Gluck, having co-written the script with Patrick Burleigh, based on the characters and tales of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. The film is produced by Gluck alongside Zareh Nalbandian, Catherine Bishop, and Jodie Hildebrand, with Doug Belgrad, Jonathan Hludzinski, Emma Topping, and Thomas Merrington serving as executive producers.
The original film earned mixed reviews from critics, but grossed over $351 million worldwide, surpassing similar family franchise Paddington 2, which grossed over $225 million at the global box office and holds a 100% “Certified Fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes.
