Wright’s debut in the realm of documentaries, The Sparks Brothers features commentary from celebrity fans of the titular pop rock duo including Flea, Beck, Jack Antonoff, Jason Schwartzman, Neil Gaiman and more and explores how Ron and Russel Mael formed a group that, despite being criminally overlooked, is considered one of the most successful and highly influential bands of all time. In addition to helming the film, Wright produced the documentary with his long-time partner Nira Park via their Complete Fiction Pictures label alongside George Hencken and Complete Fiction’s Laura Richardson, with Media Rights Capital (MRC) Non-Fiction financing the project and Focus Features handling distribution.

With two festival screenings currently under its belt, the film is currently sitting at a 100 percent approval rating from critics on review aggregate Rotten Tomatoes based on 36 reviews, celebrating the film’s earnest tone and pacing while light criticisms have been leveled at the film’s near-two-and-a-half hour runtime. Following its SXSW debut, Ron ad Russel Mael hosted a live virtual Q&A for the audience in attendance.
