Venom: Let There Be Carnage Release Pushed Back Three Months

With the long-awaited F9: The Fast Saga recently put in place of the film’s original date, Sony Pictures has elected to delay the Tom Hardy-led Venom: Let There Be Carnage for a third time for three months from June to September. In addition to delaying the second installment in Sony’s Marvel Universe, the studio has delayed the action comedy The Man From Toronto starring Kevin Hart, Kaley Cuoco and Woody Harrelson, which was originally set for the September release and has now been set for an unknown 2021 release.

Andy Serkis is directing the Venom sequel, marking his first foray in directing a comic book feature after appearing in two Marvel Studios movies. Let There Be Carnage will mark the third feature film Serkis will tackle as director following Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, which was released on Netflix last year.

Tom Hardy will reprise his role as Eddie Brock in the film alongside Michelle Williams as Anne Weying. Cletus Kasady, aka Carnage, was briefly introduced into the Venom movie franchise during the original film’s mid-credits scene that revealed Woody Harrelson as Venom’s archenemy. It was recently confirmed that Harrelson would be returning for the Venom sequel. Oscar nominee Naomie Harris (Moonlight) was also reportedly in talks to play the role of villain Shriek, who is Carnage’s love interest and accomplice.

Originally set to debut on October 2, 2020 then delayed to June 25, 2021, the sequel is now scheduled to hit the theaters on September 17 in 3D, IMAX and large-format theaters.
