Tiffany Haddish to Star in Netflix’s Film Adaptation of Mystery Girl

Netflix is in the process of developing a film adaptation of Dark Horse’s comic book series titled Mystery Girl and has found its leading lady in Primetime Emmy winner Tiffany Haddish (Bad Trip) signing on to star, according to Deadline.

This project marks Haddish’s latest collaboration with Netflix, who have previously worked together on her stand-up special Tiffany Haddish: Black Mitzvah and the adult animated sitcom Tuca & Bertie, which will now acquired by Adult Swim last year. The comedian-actress has also signed to produce the project through her She Ready Productions banner, while The Babysitter director McG has also been tapped by the streamer to helm the film.

In the film, Haddish will star as Trine who, living off the grid in Los Angeles as a street psychic, has no memory of who she is or where she came from but is guided by an omniscient VOICE in her head that knows everyone’s business and everyone’s darkest secrets. When a down on his luck LAPD officer, Cooper, seeks out Trine in hopes that she’ll help him crack a case, the two are framed for murder and must work together to clear their names and solve the ultimate mystery: the one behind Mystery Girl herself. First published in 2015, the comic book series was created by Paul Tobin and Alberto Alburquerque, though unlike the upcoming film, the comics’ story is set in London.

The Mystery Girl film will be produced by Dark Horse Entertainment’s Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg as part of the studio’s first-look deal with Netflix. On top of directing, McG will also serve as a producer along with Mary Viola for Wonderland Sound and Vision. Joining Haddish for She Ready Productions is Melanie Clark who will be executive producing.
