John Hillcoat’s Triple Nine Adds Woody Harrelson

Currently, actor Woody Harrelson is smoking’ hot due to his role on the first season of HBO’s “True Detective,” his return to serialized television for the first time in thirteen years. Even so, Harrelson is first and foremost known as a movie actor and he’s now been added to the cast of the heist thriller Triple Nine from John Hillcoat (The Road), according to Deadline.

Harrelson will play another detective in that movie, one Sergeant Detective Jeffrey Allen, who is also the uncle to Casey Affleck’s police character, the two having recently starred in very different roles in Scott Cooper’s Out of the Furnace.

The thriller involves a group of dirty cops blackmailed by the Russian mob into performing a seemingly impossible heist that involves the murder of a rookie police officer. Based on a screenplay by Matt Cook and with distribution already in place for a release by Open Road Films sometime in 2015, Hillcoat’s impressive ensemble cast already includes Christoph Waltz, Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet, Aaron Paul, Teresa Palmer, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michael B. Jordan.
