Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel to Appear in Captain Marvel 2!
Given the character naming herself after her hero, it only makes sense that Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel cross paths on screen and Kevin Feige has confirmed that Iman Vellani’s upcoming portrayal of the former character will appear in the big-screen second installment of the latter’s franchise!
Released in March 2019, the film was a box office smash, grossing over $1.128 billion at the global box office on its estimated $175 million budget, becoming the first female-led superhero film to pass the billion-dollar mark, and garnered generally positive reviews from critics who praised the performances of the cast, namely that of Larson. After Larson returned to the role in the blockbuster Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios Chief Creative Officer and President Kevin Feige announced at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con that a sequel was in development and slated for a July 8, 2022 release.
The first film also starred Samuel L. Jackson, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, with Annette Bening, and Jude Law. Reprising their roles from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy are Djimon Hounsou and Lee Pace, and returning once again to a Marvel Studios film will be Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson.
Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel was directed by the writing/directing team of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, whose credits include Mississippi Grind and Half Nelson. An all-star collective of accomplished writers penned the screenplay, including Meg LeFauve (Inside Out), Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy), Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider), Liz Flahive & Carly Mensch (GLOW) and Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck.
Since her feature writer/directorial debut with the 2018 crime thriller Little Woods, DaCosta has been a highly sought-after talent in Hollywood, following it up with the highly-anticipated Candyman reboot, which she co-wrote with producers Jordan Peele (Get Out) and Win Rosenfeld and is currently slated for an August 27, 2021 release.
